Matsushita to Close Kofu Compressor Plant

The Home Appliance Group of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. intends to strengthen its global system for production in the most suitable places, in order to accelerate its strategy for expanding their air conditioning compressor business and to establish a firm management structure.
As concrete steps, the company plans to shift production of air conditioning rotary compressors from the Kofu Plant (part of the Air-Conditioning Devices Business Unit) to Panasonic Wanbao Compressor (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. (Guangdong, China) in or around December 2007, and also to Hangzhou Air-Conditioning Devices Business Unit (Zhejiang Prov.) in or around February 2008.
At present, the company is producing air conditioning compressors in two domestic facilities in Japan (Kofu and Kusatsu) and three overseas facilities (Malaysia, Guangzhou and Hangzhou in China) with the yearly total capacity of 21 million units. The company’s global market share is estimated at about 20% or more (2005). Rotary compressors are produced at Kofu and overseas facilities, while scroll compressors are produced at Kusatsu.
The air conditioning compressor market is predicted to grow at a high rate in China with even more intense competition, and Matsushita’s customers (OEMs) are expected to shift their AC unit assembly for products with rotary compressors produced at Kofu to overseas facilities.
Accordingly, Kofu Plant will be closed in or around March 2008.maylanh.com.vn

Matsushita Produces Cumulative 200 Million Panasonic AC Compressors

Matsushita Produces Cumulative 200 Million AC Compressors
2006/09/14

The Home Appliance Group of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. attained a global cumulative compressor production for air conditioners (Acs) of 200 million units in July 2006. Matsushita, who started air conditioning compressor production in Japan back in 1958, is the first company in the world to reach 200 million units.
At the ceremony, Mr. Kiyoji Aburaya, Director of Air-Conditioning Device Business Unit, announced that with the attainment of a cumulative total production of 200 million compressors a major achievement, Matsushita intends to “provide people all over the world with comfortable space” as the global No. 1 enterprise.
Milestones leading to 200 million units
In 1958 the company started air conditioning compressor production in Kadoma City, Osaka, with 1,500 reciprocating compressors/year exclusive for the National “Home Coolers.”
Along with the spread of Acs, the company moved the production facility to Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture, in 1970, setting about mass production in earnest, and constructed a rotary compressor factory in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, in 1981 as the 2nd facility in Japan. In 1973 the company constructed its first overseas factory in Malaysia, followed by construction of the 2nd factory in Malaysia. In 1989 the company constructed a new production facility in the USA, followed by construction of a new facility in Guangzhou in 1993 and another new facility in Hangzhou in 2005. Thus, the company is developing global operations responding to the expanding AC demand overseas.
Starting with reciprocating compressors, the company has continued to increase the coverage to rotary and scroll compressors, while expanding the lineup. In 1975 Matsushita embarked on development and mass production of small, lightweight and high efficiency rotary compressors, beginning to sell them to other Japanese AC manufacturers in 1978. The company then realized exports to North America in 1980. At present, the company sells about 75% of compressors produced to OEMs in Japan and overseas.
In 1991 the company developed the industry’s first, small horizontal scroll compressors with low noise and vibration. The outdoor units incorporating these compressors were the smallest in the industry then, requiring less installation space. In 2000, the company started mass production of their evolved version, e-scroll compressors which have continued to maintain strong competitive power as high efficiency and energy saving compressors that keep pace with the growing environmental awareness. In 1997 the company took pioneering steps for changing refrigerant from HCFC22 to HFCs. Matsushita further developed compressor refrigerants with alternative refrigerants, developing compressors working with natural refrigerant (CO2) for prevention of global warming. From 2003 these compressors have been sold for CO2 heat pump water heaters.maylanh.com.vn maylanhvrf.com
